honeymoon in europe: paris

november 2002

Our first night in Paris, after the Whatsit Tower, we went to Chez Agnes. What an introduction to the Paris gustatory experience! It was, all things considered, the best meal we had on our trip. Goat cheese on rye bread, atop a salad. Salmon in brown gravy. Roasted pork chops. Chocolate pie. And two bottles of wine! The ambience was perfect: the place is tiny (I had to move a table to get into my seat), fits about 20 people total, and is run entirely by Agnes (and her little dog Gypsy). She takes orders, cooks, buses tables... I can't say enough good things about it. If you go to Paris, you must eat here.

All the best restaurants we went to in Europe were extremely modest looking on the outside (unlike the one in Brussels, which looked fancy but sucked oeufs.)

Wine to die for. Lots of it.

LOTS of it!

This picture was taken by Agnes herself. She had a little difficulty figuring out the digital camera, and given that she spoke absolutely no English, explaining was not easy. Good humor and sign language go a long way in any country.
